I have a Savage Model 12VLP in .223 that I am wanting to do some work on. I am an avid shooter, but a newbie to any kind of work other than cleaning. I want to increase the accuracy of the gun and have heard good things about bedding the stock. I don't want to put a lot of money into having the action blueprinted or customer barell or anything like that so I was considering bedding the stock. Will this really help that much with accuracy and is it something a novice like myself can attempt as long as i follow directions without worrying about ruining anything? I usually deal with Midway USA and found a do it yourself bedding kit for $20. I also have read a couple articles plus the reviews for barell de-resonaters that you slip over the barrel. The articles that I have read seem to be in favor of them as long as you take the time to dial it in to the right place on the barrel.....Any experience with these?? I figured for $18 I would probably give it a try. I know the .223 seems to be either loved or hated as a longer range rifle but I only plan on using it to 5-600yds for targeting only or the occasional groundhog that gets in the way....Any suggstions are greatly appreciated!
