The 500 weatherby and the 500 A Square are 460 weatherby based. The A Square shoots .510 dia bullets and the 500 weatherby shoots .500 dia bullets
The large bullets are 650 grain Bore riders. Both the 500 weatherby and the A square shoot 300 grain bullets over 3400 fps. They really hammer **** at those velocities. Ross

Last one I shot was with my Win M94 open sights (1972 manufacture) in .44 Mag 250gr Nosler Partitions... hand load.. 45 yards.. dropped him, one more quick followup just to make sure... That fisrt one was all that was needed, those 250gr Nosler Par really put the zap on that old bear.

I really don't like shooting bear over bait that much, but I've done it. The excitement was that the bear approached from behind the blind, and walked straight for me. My 30-06 was adequate, but I'd prefer something fast handling like a Ruger deerfield carbine in .44mag, with a 2 minute red dot 1x scope. The bear was big, a little over 7', and had to use grizzly form for full mount. I believe baited bear hunting is best at Duck mountain, Manitoba. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my black bear that stumbled across my path while I was hunting for grizzly in Yukon more, despite the bear being a lot smaller.

Up here in part of this enormous state we hunt with lever actions. I use a Marlin 444 guide gun and all my hunting buddies use Marlin 45-70 guide guns. We like the short barrels and easier to manuever in the woods.

The next one I shoot most likley will be with my 45-70 with a 460 hard cast at 1400fps. I am sure it well kill it well.

I always figured that a 45-70 Marlin aught to be just about right for bears over bait.

Marlin 1895 shooting a 430 grain bullet.

Marlin Guide gun in 45-70 w/405 gr hard cast loaded HOT seem to do the trick for me :)

Looks like I made a good choice for a bear gun. My most recent purchase was a Marlin 1895 45-70. I put a Leupold on it.

Where did you get the ammo blocks? Is that something you can give us the info on?
