Left early Tues. for MT had white knuckle driving from Casper to north of Billings. Got to camp unloaded and made plans for the morning hunt. We left camp about daybreak and headed north to some high ground overlooking some river bottoms and basins. Lots of deer activity and bucks all over. The rut was in full swing. Jumped a pretty good buck at 1030 but after a short stalk and getting the 60X on him we let him go. Time to go warm fingers and do some breakfast. Back at camp one of the 5 other hunters scored on an old, wide, 3 X 4, nice buck. Same report the rut was on. After filling our faces it was back out the door and more spotting and glassing. At about 1430 after glassing 8-9 does we were ready to change locations when I saw these horns appear above a little knoll. I got the 60X on him and said he's a shooter. The deer were feeding and milling around about 1200 yds away, they moved off below the knoll and we took off. There was a pond with a high cut bank that allowed me to jog for about 1/4 mile unseen, I got near the edge of the butte the deer had moved behind and circled toward them. I was right at the spot I last saw him when I raised my head up, there he was bedded 45-50 yds away. I tried toget behind him and get a shot but all I got in the scope was his tail end. He took off and got behind a small hill/butte deal running like hell. For some reason I ran he a few steps uphill open the bipod and extended the legs all the way and dropped in the prone position. I got him in the scope as he was climbing a near vertical face some distance away and I gave one of them loud whispers to my guide "RANGE?" he replied "362". I tried to memorize my drop chart on the drive up and I didn't have time to dial clicks, I remembered I was 8" and change low at 350 so I raised the crosshair a touch and squeezed the trigger. The 180 gr Accubond, pushed by 75.5 gr of RL-22 entered the near shoulder and exited behind the far shoulder, he was dead before he hit the ground, sliding down hill 10-15 yds. It happened so fast I didn't have time to screw up. I know it was the advice and knowledge I have gathered here and another site plus the last 5-6 weeks I have been shooting milk jugs out to 450, prone trying to simulate hunting conditions that allowed me to take him. So THANKS.

[QUOTE="chain, post: 174601, member: 3456"] Just got back from MT. Had a great trip.
