Just wanted to send in a quick post with a pic of a new rifle just arrived in AUST from Shawn Carlock at Defensive Edge Inc.

As you can imagine the logistical nightmare of having a rifle built on the other side of the world can be daunting.

About 8 months ago I started researching a custom rifle and was put onto this site by another member from Down Under. After checking it out I realised what a fantastic community to forum is for like minded people who enjoy their hunting and shooting. I quickly worked out that I had the tool now in hand to work out exactly what I needed and who could put it together. In the end I turned to Shawn in Idaho to build me a 338 EDGE to my specs.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank so many of you who were so helpful with many of my dumb *** questions along the way. Especially a big thanks to SC for having the patience to deal with all the emails and ph calls over the last 6 months.

The rifle has just arrived safely ( thank god !! ) in Aus and I simply could not be more impressed ! No shots fired yet, but the test target does get my heart racing ! Now just got to shoot, shoot and shoot it again.

My sincere thankyou to all of you once again.

Here she is

Very nice down Under Hunter! Just curious what did it take to get the rifle shipped out of the states to you? I've always heard that it's not very easy. I don't recall if it's ATF or Homeland Security?? What sort of paper work did you need to do?

Thanks, & good shooting!

You just need a federal export permit from the US State Dept. I thought this would be tough to get , so I employed a specialist export agent that I found through Gunbroker.com to take care of it. The permit actually only took around 2 weeks to get back.

After now having been through this once, I would not hesitate to do it all again for the right gun.

I'm just really pleased that the gun arrived in one piece !

Excellent, I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot.

I have a question for you though, did you have Shawn put a left hand twist barrel on it for shooting in the southern hemisphere? ;-)

Enjoy that rifle!

AJ

AJ,

I decided that because the rifle will shoot from one side of the international date line to the other, and through 3 different time zones I would leave it the way Shawns STD edge rifles are built. But I do see where you are coming from !!

DUH

Thanks for the reply. Did the fellow from gunbroker ship it directly to you? Or did it have to go through some importer?

Cheers

Down Under Hunter,
You realize that by haveing that rifle built up here in the Northern Hemishpere that all of the blastic will be upside down. You will have to refigure all of the tables and change the drop to raise. Other wise by the time you get to 300 yrds. you will be shooting way over the top of everything.
Great looking toy.

Yeah,

We are having a new version of exbal put together just for everyone down under to cater for this. We actually half the lasered range then divide by the number of cousins we have, then add windspeed . Then hope for the best !!
