[QUOTE="tweinberg, post: 168508, member: 9204"] This week my good friend Ron Wood and I were able to bag a respectable Black Bear in the Mogollion Rim country of Arizona. We were at about 7,800 feet and almost 4 miles from the closest dirt road. Previous scouting trips told us there were bears doing business in groves of oak trees near a remote water tank. We staked out the water hole and the 250 pound boar showed up right on schedule. He was dispatched with a clean shot to the front shoulder and heart with a 150 grain Winchester 270 at about 58 yards. Elation soon turned to absolute hard work as we prepared the bear for taxidermy, the dinner table, and the loooooong backpack hike out. I havn't been this tired since my last packing out of an elk. For those of you in bear populous states like Alaska, Montana or Idaho, this may seem like a small bear. Bear in mind that Arizona only has Black Bears, and in Arizona a 350 pound bear is a giant sized bear. Here are a trio of photos of our bear. Many thanks go out to my compadre, amourer, tracker, guide and good friend Ron Wood.
