arisaka to mauser 98 inlet

I have a nice walnut stock that was inletted for an arisaka 38, I would prefer to start with a mauser 98 over the arisaka if it is at all possible. Can the stock be modified to work for the 98 now that it has already been inletted for the arisaka? Thanks
