I am looking for information on AR 500 plate steel and how robust it is for handling steel core /AP type ammo or 50 bmg rounds. It appears to perform well on all rifle ammo but I have buddies whom want to try some old steel core/ap rounds on my plate (1/2 in). Feedback is appreciated before I let them shoot at it and ruin my target. Also will it stop a standard 50 bmg.

    Thanks

    Mule

I'd make him buy his own steel to shoot at...

I have practical experience with this... 308 and 30-06 AP will leave steel needles sticking out of the plate like a porcupine.

The 50BMG won't hardly slow down.

Thanks for the replies. I assume that the "steel slivers" are the steel core remanents which have bonded to the plate steel and thus "stick out like porcupine needles".

No... it's the "AP" core itself.

It just sticks in the plate, and the rest splashes off and leaves the same type of "splat" as standard ball.
