Anyone deal w/700 Rem w/long throat? New gun, not shot out. Rem do this on purpose?

But ended up with about a one caliber jump at best! Now I have a Weatherby in 270mag, and believe it or not they seem to have similar throats to that old 700 Remington! (.300 to .375" range).
