Any experience w/Sightron Scope w/mil dot reticle

Just purchased Howa 1500 in .223 w/heavy SS bull barrel. Dealer where I bought gun has shifted his focus on pitching Sightron scopes. I liked the mil dot reticle. He's offering a pretty good deal on a 4-12 w/mil dot reticle for well under $400.
Does anyone know if these are a good deal or should I go w/Burris or Leupold? Will generally be shooting bench and varmit to 300 yds.
