Chad, First off thanks for the time you put into your answer. I will certainly heed your advice. I realize that a Rem 788 isn't the best option for a action on a custom rifle, but this particular action has proven to be extremely accurate with the current set-up. When I had it built over 10 years ago, I originally just wanted to dust off coyotes and crows at medium ranges 200-500 yards. Now that I have gotten into the F-class game, I have been using the gun to shoot 600 yard matches. Needless to say, but on windy days I have fits with my preferred load, which is a 68 gr Berger. So to help buck to wind a little better I went to a (80gr)heavy bullet in regard to a 14 twist and improved my results. However, this barrel is at the end of it's life and a new barrel with a 8 twist shooting the 105 Berger VLD in 6mmBR seemed to be the best logical choice for F-class. I'm actually having another F-class gun built, a 6X47Lapua for 600-1000 yard competition. It will be on a Surgeon target action, Broughton 7.3 twist barrel(for 115gr Berger), Manners T2 stock and Jewell trigger. But I would hate to just retire my 788 when I could just put a new tube on it and possibly have a very accurate 600 yard F-class gun. I just thought it should be able to handle the 6mmBR, since it had done so well as a 6mm Rem Imp. Once again thanks for your time and advice. Jim
