with the .260 Rem which action or out of box rifles allow for max OAL cartridge length so you can get max seating into lands and max charge w/ the 140 gr bullets and reliably feed still feed rounds from magazine? Or is a guy better off jumping to 6.5-06 and not worry about this?

You can use a Seekins DBM that has a OAL of 2.950.

You might consider the 6.5 Creedmoor or the 6.5x47 Lapua. Both give similar energy as the 260 Rem, but allow longer bullets in a short action magazine. If you want more performance at the cost of barrel life the 6.5-06 and 264 Win Mag are standard factory choices. In a Rem 700 (or similar) 3.6" long action magazine neither is crimped for bullet space.
