7x57 mauser in a 700 short action

In another thread, I asked the question "Is anyone loading the 7x57 to modern rifle pressures" (I paraphrase), and along with some friendly input and personal research, I learned that others have matched .280 Rem and 30/06 performance when the cartridge is loaded to 60,000 psi pressures just like the others. The 7x57 AI is impressive, and exceeds the '06 in reach. I know this is not pertinent to the magazine issue, but since the conversation drifted into performance, I had to add my two-bits.

What brass are people using when they push the pressure higher?

Norma works well when loading to .308 Win pressure levels. If the plan is to load to magnum pressure levels, RWS would probably be the way to go.

I have 7x57AI in 700 but long action. 7-08 better for short. You could put a blank feed to make it single shot for long extended bullets in 7x57. The chamber throat will have except longer bullets before they touch the lands of the rifling.

Yep. And Karamojo Bell shot 1,000 elephants with it. Totally useless.
I didn't say it was totally useless. If you read his book HE CLAIMS he was slaughtering naive (never been shot at) large herds of elephant from atop a step ladder to get the angle he needed. He doesn't mention how many he wounded or how many shots he made per animal. Different times. I can assure you if you turned up today with a 7x57 to hunt elephant you would be quickly escorted back to the plane.
It's a superb deer cartridge. Buy one and find out for yourself.
