I'm not a LR shooter nor target shooter, but the "Beanfield rifle" craze got to me one time, and I wanted to "try something different". My local smith had been making a lot of rifles in the Lazzeroni cartridges and using their magazine box/follower to create an "in line" magazine, you just opened the floorplate and dropped in your rounds "ala Krag style! So, I bought one of the last ( around here anyway) Mod 700 .308 Varmint model with the unfluted barrel. It was in a nice synthetic stock so, I had my smith convert it to the 300 WSM, It shot like the proverbial "house afire" and it was easy to get 3100 with the 180 NBT. Since I don't hunt out here where I shoot LR nor "want to" carry a 10#+ rifle in the mountains, I gave it to my pastor down in Texas. He had far more opportunites to use a rifle like that down there, even for "point and shoot" hunting. I don't know what he ever did with it, if anything. I had given him one of the mid 90's then Mod 700 ADL SS in 7mm Rem Mag, nothing done to it but a trigger job, and he uses it for everything! ha My point is the "in line magazine" loaded from the bottom worked swell. :)
