I'm with Mud on the IMR 7977. Been doing some barrel break-in on a new 7 mag with 7977 and some "melting tip" 162 Amax while waiting on my 175 ELD-Xs. Barrel is a 9 twist Kreiger 26". During break-in, I noticed some very tight groups and decided to run a seating depth, max load and chrono tests while fire forming new Norma brass. The seating depth of .040" jump improved groups @ 100 to one hole. Max load was well above book max, but it was a cold day. I backed off 3 grs. and loaded five rds each from 69 to 71.5 grs. @ 200 yds. The winners were 70.0 (2936 fps) and 71.2 grs.(3027 fps), with .25 moa groups and SDs under 6 fps with Fed 215s. Trying not to get excited as they were only 5 shot groups, but still have to get info from larger groups @ longer range. I've had minimal copper fouling with 7977, but have to knock powder out @ 30-40 rds. as accuracy starts falling off. I am using HBN coated bullets and treated barrel, so remember to start low & work up. I just hope the 7977 works as well for the 175s, if they ever ship.
