I see here that there are heaps of shooters using 26" barrels on their 7mm Rem mag's but I was wondering what would be the maximine usable barrel length in this calibre.

So lets here from those with 30" and longer tubes on their 7mm Rem Mags and see what top speeds they are getting.

I would be interested in how the heavy weight bullets go in such barrels.

I can safely push a Berger 180 at 3160 with my 28" Pac-Nor.

Bentc,

That is some serious speed with a 180gn pill.
I wonder why people bother with a 7 RUM when you can get speeds like that and also don't really need a brake on a 7mm Rem Mag.

What do you think you could get with a 32" barrel? I run a 30" barrel plus a 2" brake on my .338 Edge and find it no problem in the field. So a 32" 7mm would be just the same.

I am also wondering about velocity. I should get my 29" 7mm remmy barrel soon. Then I will know first hand. I will post back some velocities when the gun gets done.

I get there with Retumbo, and I'm sure that if you went with a few more inches of tube you could push them faster.

My 7 does really well with the Retumbo load, but it does better with H1000 at 3000 fps. Both loads are interchangeable to 350 yards.

Come on boys!
There must be someone with a 32" barrel running flat out?
I know of someone with a 30" barrel chambered in 7WSM that is getting over 3000 fps with 180gn Bergers so I would think that a 7mm Rem Mag and a 32" barrel could do better.

I have a 30" plus a muzzle brake. During pressure check load development I was approaching 3000 with the Berger 180VLD and stopped there. Final load was reduced with a velocity near 2800 producing best precision and ES. The higher charge loads were all around 1 MOA with high ES. Not good for what I was after. I don't believe I would have seen any advantage with anything over 30" in my 7 Mag. Just my $.02 and I'm sure there are others achieving higher velocities over 3000 with good results.
