So after my initial thread wondering about the pros and cons of doing an extreme 7mm build, the 7mm-300 Norma, and receiving a lot of comments that it was a bad idea, I've decided to do a 300 Norma Improved instead. I hear a lot of good things about this cartridge and its ability to push heavy 30 cal bullets. My plan once this is all said and done is to have a fairly lightweight, long range elk killer. I'm currently in the process of getting a reamer print (JGS) drawn up. I'm planning to run either the 215 or 230 grain Berger Hybrids (for hunting) and maybe try out Hornady's 230 A-tip for stretching the rifle's legs a little bit. I'm undecided about what to do with the freebore on this rifle. From everything I can find, somewhere around .210-.220" seems to be about right for the 215 and around .260" for the 230 grain class of bullets. Any opinions about which route to go?
