375 LRH Bullet - thought's please

    If a good reliable 375 LRH bullet were to be designed what would the criteria be to improve on what currently exists?

    Weight, length, configuration, point, etc.

    I believe Hooker Tactical has a .375 offering that supposedly has a bc over 1.000.
    My gunsmith is almost finished with his 375 Chey Tec and it'll be shooting the Hookers.

    The 350 gr SMK is a good start with its BC around .770 from my testing.

    What I would do would be to make the Ogive a bit more aggressive and also add an aluminum tip to not only booste BC to the .9 range but also to promote bullet expansion at longer ranges. I would also beef up the jacket thickness slightly in the body of the bullet and then taper the jacket from there to the nose

    A .9 BC 375 bullet that had a lead core and would expand well at all ranges but not blow up would make the big 375 wildcats truely impressive, even more so then they already are.

    Why the question, you looking to make a bullet for us????

    Kirby has it nailed as usual. And it seems to me that you're getting into a bullet size, with a 350 grain in 375, where you will take out almost any thin skinned game even at ranges where the bullet comes apart pretty badly. Could any elk survive a close range encounter with something on the order of a Berger VLD or a SMK of 350 grains? I think the big bullets like this will expand at long range even with a fairly heavy jacket. It has always been my impression that to keep a 375 bullet together on heavy game even at 2400 fps, you need a really heavy jacket, maybe even a TSX. A 0.03 jacket may be pretty heavy on a 243 bullet but not on a 375. It takes a heavy jacket to keep all that lead together.

    So what I'm saying is that it may be easier to get a bullet that will expand down to maybe even 1200 fps with a 350 in 375 caliber. Then rely on that large bullet mass to get the job done at close range/high velocity on thin skinned game. Anyone think this makes any sense???

    Are we seeing this effect already for the 300 SMK? What is the lowest speed this bullet will expand on game?
