remingtonman_25_06, I have a 338 RUM and love it. My longest shot was on an Elk at 350 yds w/ 210 gr PT. It was a bang flop kill. I can't speak to actual LRH but it is truely a hammer. The 338/300RUM is also known ase the 338 Edge. The case is .1" longer than the 338 RUM which will give you extra case capacity. The 338 RUM can push a 250 gr bullet close to 3000 fps and the 338 Edge is something like 3050 fps. Do a search on the 338 Edge and I know there is some good data available. Think of the cartridge case as an engine and "There is No Replacement for Displacement"! The .338 will hit a lot harder than the .308. Only downside is recoil but there are ways around it IF it bothers you. Hope this helps you out. Regards, JD338
