WHAT IS A BETTER 338 Norma- imp 35% or40% ? And Y ? I am going to rebarrel my 338 Norma to a 338 Norma-imp. Thanks for info. Joe PS Who makes dies ?
I built a 338 Norma improved 3 yrs ago (35 degree shoulder)and have been hunting and shooting it for the past 2 years.
Rifle is built on a Stiller tac 338 action, 26" krieger barrel w/break, McMillan atg stock, Jewell trigger, rem 700 floor plate. Topped with a 20 Moa rail and a Nightforce 5.5-22 56 NXS. Rifle weight is 10.4#
I load 88.5 gr of H1000, fed 215, 285gr amax, .060" off lands. At 5600' elevation I am getting 2980 FPS out of this load. Recoil on this is mild
In comparison the 338 Norma with a 26" barrel and the 285 amax loaded with 88 grains of H1000 is pushing 2750 FPS.
I can magazine feed my rounds and have been extremely happy with the performance of this caliber.
This is something I would recommend to a shooter that is looking for a more efficient burning cartridge in the 338 platform

I know this is a very old thread, but figured it may have more connection to people in the know vs starting a new one.
Any new info on the ability to access/rent a reamer for a 338 NMI vs having to purchase a brand new custom one? I am in the process of building a sub 9 lb .338 Norma, and since I'm going with a 24" barrel I have thought about improving it to keep up with the performance of a standard 26" or 28" norma that I want, 2750 fps+ with the Berger 300.

Or call TS Customs, they spun a barrel up for me once. I run a 22" and I get 2704 with 300
