I have a load figured out for my 338 Lapua which shoots amazing. I'm shooting out of a Savage 110BA with a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 scope. The load I'm using is 79g of IMR 7828 with 300g Sierra Matchking HPBT bullets. OAL is 3.728", and I'm using Federal 215 primers.

The accuracy is great with success out over 1100y (thank you Shaun and Bob Carlock) but as Bob put it I'm "ballistically challenged" with a muzzle speed of only 2500 fps. I'm torn whether or not to change this load to get a little more speed. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good load for this particular rifle, or an opinion on whether I should change this load at all?lightbulb

Change the powder to H-1000 and use a CCI 250 primer. Start at 89 gr and work up in 1/2 gr steps. You should start to see pressure after 91 or 92 gr. In a 26" tube expect to get to 2750 fs or so.

hey jonny

here is what i have been toying with in my 110 ba as far as 300grainers go:

300gr lapua scenar OAL 3.664" or 300gr Sierra mk OAL 3.714" over 89.2gr Retumbo @ 2780fps super sonic to about 1900yrds...

cci magnum primers and lapua brass

accuracy is around moa so far and i am still fine-tuning it... i have found both bullets seemed to shoot identical in my gun as far as point of impact was concerned when i was shooting them side by side at 1000 yards....

Lapua brass trim 2,723
Oal 3,734
Bushing. 366
2750 fps
1/4 moa / 3 rounds and 1/2 for 5 rounds

Unfortunatly just tested at 100 yards for now
