I was wondering if a 30 inch barrel was a necessity to reach the desired ballistics of the 338 Edge catridge? How much is it going to acheive over a 26 inch barrel?

From what I have read most guys are geting around 2830fps + or - from a 30inch barrel shooting 300gr bullets

I have a 26.5inch barrel on my 338Edge and am getting 2770fps with the 300gr bullets.

I diden't want a gun that long so i went with 26.5 and gave up 60fps.

I am happy.

If you don't want a 30+" barrel go with the 250 grain bullets.

If you want to to shoot 300 grain SMKs go with 30 to 34" for maximum velocity.

Big bullets need lots of barrel to get optimum velocity.

I have a Brux 29.5" on mine. Im getting 2893 fps with 94 grains of H1000 with a spread of 5 fps.

Very, Very accurate, but the gun is muzzle heavy.

I should have gone shorter and given up a few fps.

I was all about squeezing fps out of the gun, but after shooting and packing it I wish is was a little more "friendly" while lugging it around at 11,000'.

Generally speaking the chambering is very accurate and easy to load for.

Accuracy kill, not speed.

Hind sight is 20/20

25.5" barrel plus brake gets 2760 and I get 2800 with the can on. I am getting ready to do another Edge and will do a 28 for use without the can just for hunting.
