Interesting. It was due to the lack of complications that I picked the 338-300 over the 338 RUM. To make 338-300 brass I simply have to run 300 RUM brass over my Sinclair expander mandrel, which is something that I have to do on all brass where I have to neck turn. Given 338 RUM brass is so hard to find, I'd have to start with 300 RUM brass, expand the neck, and then push the shoulder back .010." That is certainly doable but more work that simply necking up 300 RUM brass. I plan to run this rifle as a single-shot, so I don't need to do any of the magazine or action mods. This is going to be a big, heavy rifle and hunted form stationary locations. When I want to carry a magazine full of 338 bore cartridges, I'll just grab my 8lb w/scope 338 WM build on a pre-64 and take that rifle to the top of the ridge. The 338-300 seems to be a simpler solution to me for my application, though I agree, the 338 RUM could better built into a carry rifle.
