300 Win Powder

All my 300 Win have always liked R-22 , it gives the highest velocities and lower ES #'s , I don't shoot much wiht he bullets lighter than 180 but I did e alittle bit of development with the 165gr Ballistic tip. I ended up with 84grs of R-22 with an average velocity of 3429fps. This load is safe in my gun but my chamber is cut slightly tighter than SAMMI spec and I'm using a 25" Obermeyer barrel .

Start at 80grs and work your way up.

You will not be disappointed with this bullet or grain weight. Both my buddy and I shoot .300 win mags with 168 barnes tsx. We both use reloader 19. My buddy uses 77gr's of powder and my load is 78gr's. Neither of has have had our loads on a chrony yet. I shot a cow elk at about 400 yards, and it was a thru and thru, but went down right away. My buddy shot his cow at about 350 yards, and found the bullet, and he weighed it, and it weighed 167.2 grains. So I would say that is pretty good bullet retention with a perfect mushroom. We also both shot our whitetail bucks at about 300-350 yards, and both of these deer died on the spot.

I use 168 VLD's. After trying lots of different powders, someone talked me into Ramshot Magnum. vol. is only 3170, but my Rem 300 win mag loves this combination for long range stuff.
Good luck.

I have had good luck with H1000 using 190 gr. Sierra's. RL22 also did pretty good as well.

+1 on the H-1000 81 gr of H-1000 behind a 180 grain bullet in my 300 win is the most consistent load of any powder that I have tried only 5 fps ES not as fast as some powders but more consistent in the ES spread department

Thanks .....I picked RL 22 with the 190gr BTSP Hornady and 70.4 as a starting load.......and RL 19 with 180gr AB/BT @ 70.0 grains in my 300 Win in No.1.

I have some IMR 4350 @ 70.0 with 180's also....use alot IMR 4350 in other rifles 30-06 and 338 Win.
