300 Weatherby Mark 5 action build

I rebarreled mine to 7mm rem mag. Left it long throated so I could use all the case capacity with 180gr bullets.

The Mark Vs are great actions. I got a 300 WBY Mark V on a Christmas sale a few years ago and turned it into a Proof barreled 338 LM.

I'd use what you've got and rebarrel it into something a little more mainstream like a 300 Win. That way you won't have to change the action, it'll feed and function without mods, and ammo/components are more readily available.

I don,t know why you have a hate on for the 300. Have a smith put on a brux and be happy. Mine with Norma 217 pushes a 200 at 3150 out of a 26. The rum burns more powder and makes more noise but no more speed. The 300 rum is a bean counters delight. Marketing. The 338 rum is the real deal. Enough bore to use that capacity, But in a 30? Really tough to beat the 300 roy.

think it depends on the direction you want to go with it. hunting bigger game i would go for the 340. for fun i would do the 6.5-300.
