300 RUM/ 220MK\'s??

Anybody loading 220 matchkings in the 300 RUM? Seems like alot of you are fond of the 200 accubond, anybody shoot anything different? I'm not that interested in the 180's.

Re: 300 RUM/ 220MK\'s??

I can help with the Accubonds but not with the sierras.

92 gr of RL 25 and 86 gr of Retumbo worked wonders with the 300 rum/200 AB combination. 3150 fps or so and phenomenal Accuracy through my SAKO 75. Under 1" at 300 yards---average.

Re: 300 RUM/ 220MK\'s??

Pop, I thought Retumbo was a much slower burning powder than RL25 so I am surprised to see that you are using quite a bit less of it than of the RL25, yet still getting basically the same velocity. Did you mean to say you are using 96 grains of Retumbo? Thanks, Brian.

Re: 300 RUM/ 220MK\'s??

On average, RL-25 and Retumbo are very similar as far as charge weight and velocity. It will largley be determined by lot numbers though. If you have a slightly slower lot of RL-25 and a slightly faster lot of Retumbo, you will get these differances and vice versa. One thing though, it seems as if Retumbo beats up my brass alot more than RL-25 at the same velocities.

Re: 300 RUM/ 220MK\'s??

RL 25 in my 300UM works best. The 220 SMKs shoot well, but the 210 JLKs group better. And for a hunting bullet, the Barnes 200 TSXs are my choice.

Unfortunately, based on his email to me last night, Swampy (JLK owner) says their 30 caliber die was damaged and will not be repaired until late spring/early summer.

You are correct sir:

the retumbo load is infact 96 not 86 of retumbo.......
sorry

Re: 300 RUM/ 220MK\'s??

I no longer have my 300 rum but I was shooting the 220 with great accuracy, around 91 grains of retumbo.
