Hey-guys;-I-have-a-question-regarding-what-twist-rate-would
-work-best-for-.30-cal-using-110grn-&-125grn-Bullets.
-I-will-be-using-a-300-WSM-.333-tight-neck-throated-for
-the-110grn-V-Max-and-125grn-Ballistic-Tip-bullets.
-I-will-only-be-shooting-those-bullets;-so-I-am-thinking
a-1-14-twist-will-work-perfect.-Please;-I-need-some
advise-on-what-twist-rate-would-be-best.-I-know-I-wont-be-able-to-shoot-the-VLD-bullets
but-that's-ok.-I-have-a-1-10-twist-barrel-right-now;
but-I-am-thinking-a-slower-twist-would-work-better
for-the-110-and-125-grn-bullets.-This-rifle-will-be-strictly
for-100-to-1000-yard-varmint-shooting.-It-will-shoot-the
110grn-V-max-at-4150-fps-and-the-125grn-Ballistic-Tip-at-4050-fps-out-of-a-30"-pipe.-This-will-be-a-flat-shooting
rig.-I-am-thinking-the-125grn-BT-will-be-the-bullet-I
will-use-because-it-has-a-pretty-good-BC-for-a-poly
tipped-bullet-and-traveling-at-over-4000-fps-will-be-a-
real-varmint-buster-out-to-1000-yards.

I think that alot of guys are using 1-15 and 1-16 twist barrels for shooting short range BR comps with the 30 bench rest caliber. I have heard alot about Koystien (sp) barrels and that they have a big following in the 30 BR caliber crowd , might be worth a call to them or haunt some of the BR boards and ask their what twist they use.

I know most of those guys are shooting custom bullets in the 100-150gr class.

But I would say that a 1-15 would be plenty.

Have you run the numbers for those light pills at that speed and ant long range? I was kinda wondering about that myself. I heard about a guy shooting 155gr Palma bullets out of a big 30 mag at around 4000 fps and doing well at informal "sniper" comps out to 1000yds

Go to richards stocks in VA. H advertises on www.6mmbr.com He is shooting exactly what you are talking about. it is a 300 WSM shooting the 125 Btips at around 4000 fps. I think he is using a 15 twist.

A cut rifled barrel mftr can make any twist.

The 30 BRs are shooting 17 twist with the 118 FB bullet and 115/16 twist with the 125s. However you cannot go by that. The FB tend to go one twist slower than the boattail.

I have a 17 twist Kostyshen barrel with 118 BIBs and it is a one holer at 100.

I-did-some-reserch-on-Noslers-and-Bergers-bullets-site.-I-can-shoot-any-of-their-bullet-from-110-to-150grns-out-of-
a-1-15-twist-barrel.

I will make one recommendation. Go to a .336 neck. Saves lot of neck turning and no need to go any tighter.

My comp guns are .336

Think I would go with whatever twist Richard is using on his 300 WSM and 125s. He seems to have it worked out and smoking.

Norma-300-WSM-brass;-they-are-measuring-right-at-.335-so
it-want-be-to-bad-to-turn-down-to-.331-for-over-all-fit.

also-going-to-use-Vhitivoria-N550-Powder.-From-what
I-have-been-reading-this-set-up-is-laser-accurate-out
and-destructive-on-varmints-out-to-1000-yards.-I-am
looking-forward-to-putting-this-one-togather.-It-will
be-one-of-those-rifles-that-no-one-has.-The-Nosler
125grn-Ballistic-Tip-has-a-BC-of-.366-and
traveling-at-over-4000-fps-it-will-be-awesome-out-to-1000
yards.-Once-again;-we-don't-have-that-much-wind-where
I-shoot-so-wind-wont-be-a-problem.-Anyhow;-it-will-be
different-from-the-norm;-and-I-know-it-is-going-to-
be-fast-and-accurate.-I-went-with-a-1-15-twist-barrel;-that
is-what-Richard-recommended-for-this-type-of-project.

Why not kick it up a notch to the 300RUM? I just can't warm up to those goofy short mags.

FWIW, I shoot 150 grain 0.308 AccuBonds from a 1:14 twist at about 3150 fps and have no problems with twist.

Thats good to know. I have heard I will be able to shoot bullets up to 155grns if need be.

Hired gun, I thought about going with the 300 RUM. Here are the reasons I did not go with the 300RUM;
1. No good brass for 300RUM
2. To much recoil
3. The smaller .30cal bullets are working better out of the 300-WSM.
