Any of yoy guys know the specs on the new 30 Norma mag, the one based off the new 338( Sniper's Hide Forums - Forums powered by UBB.threads™, I was told its going to be smaller than the 338 case by Jimmy S. that water capisity is 101 for the 30 and 106 for the 338, does this sound like a basic neck down or a smaller and shorter case. Reason is Chris at longshot has reamers for the 30-338 norma wildcat and thats what I am leaning toward.

The 30-338 Norma, from the info you provided sound like nothing more than 338 NM necked down to 308, as the name implies. Losing 5gr powder capacity by necking down 338 to 308 sounds reasonable.

Here is a picture of the new 300 Jazz AKA.300-338 Norma improved by SSG. and a few test results.
The testing for the 300 Jazz was done with the list of components below
Phoenix machine action
Brux #5 contour, 9.5 twist- 28" barrel with one of my small x-treme "V" port brakes.
McMillan A-5 stock
I've only fired approx. 40 rounds through this so far. I worked up to 3200FPS with 201 JLK's over the crony then did an accuracy test at 300yds. 3-shot went .750 and at 753 yd. 3-shot groups went approx 2.250.
Conditions were approx 5-7 mph winds and temps were around 15 degrees. I will be posting more pix with rifle and target in a few weeks.

BUMP! I want to keep this thread alive, as I am extremely interested in this cartridge, Who has the reamer for this? Also, is this an improved form or standard .308/.338 norma mag? As from what I hear, this will be a production cartridge before too long. Has anyone heard of any dies/reloading equipment available for this chambering yet?

I like the look of that 338-408 Snipe-tac. What sort of action do you need to fire that thing?

Also do you know of any 7mm cartridges based on that 338 Norma Magnum case?

What kind of velocities are expected of this cartridge? I am aware of the parent pushing 300 smk's to 2750 and 250smk's to 3050, I should think it'd push the 220-240 smk's to 3200 in a long tube? W/ the 240's excellent BC, that'd make for one hell of a longrange .308 cal round

About all I can find out is that the 30/338 Norma mag is the same cartrige as the
300 NM,338NM and the 375NM it does not have a belt like the 308 NM and the358NM
so it would have more case capicity than the 308 NM or the 358NM.

There is not a lot of information on these new cartriges. It looks like Norma has bumped
up there new line by removing the belt.

If you have access to the reamer it can be compaired to the 30/338 win or 308 Norma Mag
reamers to get a general size increase.
