Went out a few weeks ago to 1000 yards.. We sat up facing north, so I dialsed in 4 clicks 6.7 in for wind drift and 2.5 in for rotational drift.. around 9 to 9.5 inches total.. not counting wind.. It has been VERY windy here, but it ws around 9am and we have a 1-2 mph wind at around 7:30 behind us. The 195's are going 2710-2725 fps with my old loads. (I know loaded em to 2650 with 1.5 grains less powder to ease up on the brass) Back to the 1000 yards.. Shot a couple of 180's I didn't have sighted in just for kicks and to foul barrel.. both missed. Then to the 195 I had sighted in at 200 yards..104 clicks.. held about 3 inches foe 1-2 mph from 7:30 behind me.. Squeezed the trigger.... The lovely sound of "ting on the square 16 inch A500 steel, Then another and another and another.. so easy.. Then the wind picked up 5-6-7-8 mph from 8:00 and the wind was shifting from 9 to 7:00 quick and also the speed from 4 mph to 10 back n forth.. So now I wasn't so cocky and a few misses,, The wind was kicking our buts, my friend brought his Rem 700 SPS 308 w a 20 in barrel shooting 175 SMK's at 2575 fps.. His gun is accurate for a stock barrel shots 1/2 inch to 0.65 all day at 100. Noticed when his hot it made a ting sound and could not see the steel move, but when the 195's hit it, the steel moves bigtime back n forth Those 195's sure keep the energy. We sat Gallon water jugs at 1000 yards.. We shot at them for 10 shots each.. not of us hit them.. or so we thought, I found out I hit mine but just barely nicked it. The wind was blowing as I sad heavy and all over the place for speed... So it was just pure luck I nicked it.. It could have been either one of us. last few weeks we have has 25-27 mph winds all the time, jumping around.. We are waiting for the winds to calm before more testing.
