257stw, as you know building you get to pick the parts vs buying a factory rifle and I prefer to have something build. My 270WSM is on a Win (WSM)action with a Lawton fluted barrel @ 26" long and my 270 is on a Rem action with a 25" Lilja barrel. My almost finished 270Wby is on Rem action with Mike Rock barrel. Only problem with the 270WSM depending on what and who's bullets seating depth can be a issue. The 270Wby won't have the Wby freebore and headspace be on the case shoulders you use less powder you start about 10% less and you get about same velocity. I've always like the 270's and with the Matrix 165gr VLD hunting bullet might be a nice combination in the 270Wby. I know I was no help but good luck
