I'm looking at rebarreling a Sako AIII in 270. Looking at 280 AI, any other cartridges to consider? Want to stick with standard 0.473 bolt face, so no magnums. Don't like belted cartridges and prefer something with dies and brass available, ok with fire forming if needed. Probably do a 1:7 twist if 280 AI. I can load, cycle and eject cartridges loaded as long as 3.59" with the factory mag (haven't tried longer). For the sake of loading long bullets, this would fit a 280 and the 195 Berger, although that might not be the optimal projectile. To be a candidate, the cartridge has to be able to properly seat some longer, high BC bullets. Intended use is hunting game up to elk with long range performance in appropriate circumstances. The 270 just doesn't have the bullet selection.
