i recently aquired a win model 70 264 win mag with a factory (or wat appears to be factory) stainless 22 inch barrel. i have read alot about pre 64 model seventy but havent read anywhere that they made them with stainless barrels could this be an aftermarket barrel or does anyone else have one?

If its a pre model 70, someone corrects me if im wrong, but I dont think they made stainless barrels on factory produced rifles then, especially not in a 22" for the 264.

Pretty easy to tell if its a factory barrel as it will have the winchester name and stamping etc..

Custom barrels have nothing on them other then the caliber stamped on them.

I'm not really sure as well, but'..., I thought Winchester had stainless barrels on their Pre 64 Mod 70's in .220 Swift and in their 264 Win Mag in the Westerner model both having 26" inch barrels. I think a Winchester collector might have to chime in on this one. 22" barrel on a .264 Win Mag is kinda like putting a racing saddle on a rented mule. Might as well shoot a 6.5 Carcano with a very large boom!:D
