I wasn't gonna argue with him because obviously he saw it over the crono, but I have a very hard time believing that 2" of bbl will give 300fps. In all the articles and tests I've seen done, 2" of barrel will give about 60-80fps, at most 100fps.
[ QUOTE ] I was talking to a buddys dad tonight and he has a .264. We got into a discussion about 24" vs 26" tubes. I say theres not a whole lot of difference, maybe 100fps at most. Now heres the thing, he has a 26" bbl and says he is getting 3300fps with a 140g using max load of H870. I believe him. Now the funny part is this, he says his friends .264 has a 24" tube, and only shoots them at 3000fps. Thats 300fps difference, and to me, that doesn't seem realistic. I wasn't gonna argue with him because obviously he saw it over the crono, but I have a very hard time believing that 2" of bbl will give 300fps. In all the articles and tests I've seen done, 2" of barrel will give about 60-80fps, at most 100fps. Thoughts?? [/ QUOTE ] My thought is that he needs to actually chrono the load H870 is only good for big magnums and the heaviest bullets. I really don't think that it can achive the max velocity in a 264. Faster powders or should I say the optimum powder for a given barrel length and bullet weight will achive the max speed.
