Hello folks, i am just joining this forum for the mere reason that i am new to long range shooting (not shooting in general but 500+ yds i am new to). I have a 260 rem being put together at krieger and it should be here in about a week. i have some break in loads and also some test loads but i wanted to ask if anybody out there had some good loads for the 260 remington. gun is coming with 5R rifling and a 26' barrel with 1-9 twist. i have read a bunch of article on 6mmBR and other sites but i fgured i would try and ask as well.

thanks in advance for any info anybody might provide.

Every rifle is different you will need to work up your own load. We could help with components and what we have had success with on our guns. Give us some more details like what you want to use the gun for? Your intended targets and what your expectations are. Then we can suggest bullets, primers, brass and powders. I can answer the powder question now h4350 it will give you the best result results.

Why did you go with the 1-9 over the 1-8?

fellas thanks for the good info, i am new to this so it took me a couple minutes just to find the reply button hahaha, anyway, i did go with the 1-8 twist, i goofed in saying it was 1-9. basically ihave necked down 7mm-08 brass to start with loading, it is basically cheaper than getting into it with the laupa which is what i plan to use for my final loads. i know sounds backwards right, just a budget :)

my plan is to use this gun for long range application, i.e. 500 yds or better. i have a place to shoot 500 yds right now so i am going to take advantage of it and shoot it all i can. i would love to be able to hunt with the gun but lumping a 15 lb gun around isn't my idea of fun, esp in colorado or elsewhere but for lope hunitng, sure thing!!! spot and stalk is exactly what i would like to be doing next year.

currently my selection of bullets are the 123 and 139 lapua scenares and the 140 AMAX bullets fueled by H4350 with a CCI 200 primer. I am going to stick with standard COL until i break in the barrel and throat. i am going to assume that the throat is pretty tight on a krieger barrel.

i am toping the gun off with a leupold MK 8.5x25x50 LR/T Mil Dot seated on a EGW 20 MOA base. I want to be able to shoot 1K yds +. The action is a rem 700 XCR action. hind sight i should have bought a TAC30 just based on the $$ it cost me to buy a tear down gun and then put it on the krieger barrel. oh well it was my first built so i learned a few things on the way. i am also workingon getting a jewel trigger as well but decided just to be able to shoot it when i get it to use the factory trigger for now and replace once i break the gun in. i know, backwards again, but a lot of coin in the gun so i just need to wait.

ok fellas thanks for the info and i appreciate all the discussion. this website is a really great place to find info out and talk to folks. gun)

15 lbs isn't heavy, especially with a good sling. Just something to consider - think about the weight the guys are carrying around the mountains of Afghanistan.

jtkratzer, dude totally understand and done two tours to Iraq myself, a full basic load plus gear is about 80-100 lbs depending on what you have, plus 120-135 dg heat, been there done that and got the t-shirt. i am talking about when i am in the mountains of colorado at 10k humping a back pack fully loaded plus gun. i try and get out to colorado with my family on a DIY hunt each year and we don't hang out in a camper and walk raods, we set up a base camp and move from there to a spike camp which is normally no less than 3-4 miles in. just something to consider though. not trying to shoot yah down here and i totally understand what you are saying but i have past thr point of draggin my knuckles and beating myself up :) cheers:cool:

Switching brass will change your load. I had a lot of luck with the amax
