25-06 versus 257 weatherby

Montanarifleman, My 257 wby's shoot the 100 grain barnes ttsx at 3760 fps easily with great accuracy. You have a very fast 25-06. I have a 300 wby that shoots the 180's at 3450 fps and the 200's at 3250 fps. It is the only one of many over 40 years I have ever seen that would shoot that fast. Sometimes the stars just get lined up right I guess.
LTLR, what length barrel and what powder are you feeding that 300 Wby?

Sorry for the momentary jack...

26" barrel Ruger #1. I think it was 7828 powder. I have the load written down somewhere. Back when I had my range it was fun to bring it out and show guys what there 300 RUM was suppose to do. It shoots the exact same numbers as my 300 RUM's. I have always wanted to pull the rifle apart and see why this happens. I have no idea. It is also extremely accurate. I have fooled with rifles since the 60's and many 300 wby's. This is the most amazing rifle I have ever seen.

I went back in a box of old stuff and found that data. My memory was off on the numbers but the most important thing was I knew it was way outside the norm for this cartridge like your 25-06. It was 7828 powder. The accuracy load for the 200 grain speer hot core was 3226 fps with a note of a 5/8" group at 200 yards. The accuracy load for the 180 grain hornady spire point was 3378 fps. The note was just under 1 1/2 inch group at a quarter mile. Again this is out of a standard Ruger #1. I still have the rifle if anyone wants to see it shoot. Have had it since back in the 90's.

I have shot the 25-06, the 25-06 AI and the 25 Gibbs for years and they will not shoot with a 257 wby unless somebody happenned to find one like my way out of the norm 300 wby.

LTLR, that is real fast for a 300 WBY. In the case of my 25-06 I think it's more the RL17 powder than the barrel, which is a 26" Sendero. My next fastest velocity for both the 110's and 115's was 200 fps less than with RL17, using Retumbo. I was right at 3200 fps with the 115's and Retumbo wich was 50 fps faster than the fastest load of Retumbo and 115's Nosler was showing and I'm assuming that was a 24" barrel.

I should be getting out later today to test some GS 177's with RL17 and H1000 in my 300 RUM. Been waiting a long time for this. Should be very interesting.

Never tried the re17. All my loads are at the 3200 fps range like your others. Maybe I need to try some re17. Let me know how the 177's do. I am anxious to hear what you can get out of those in the 300 RUM. One of my buddies was hitting almost 3500 fps with them. Just wondering if his barrel was just really fast.

Ltr, what's your 257 Roy load? My neighbor has one and is trying to get the 100's to shoot. He is having all kinds of problems. I'm going to try and mess with it Saturday and don't know what powder or seating depth to start out.
