I never really thought about why my current 25-06 shoots so well with the bullet way off the lands. It is a Rem. sportsman 78 ( poor man's 700) action with a Shilen #6 SS 26" barrel in a H&S Precision stock. It will go in my casket with me when I die.:D I have had other 25-06 rifles, Rem 700 and Ruger #1 and have loaded for other people. Some rifles do shoot with the bullets close to the lands. The 700 Rem I had liked 117 Sierra PH and 52 grs. H-4831 with the bullet 10 thousands off the lands. As long as I get the accuracy with decent velocity I don't care how far off the lands I have to load a bullet. I will not load a hunting round closer than 10 thousands though. Got a bullet stuck once on a hunting trip and wasted half a day getting back to camp to poke it out with a cleaning rod and clean the powder out of the action. You live and learn.
