Hello,
I am basically just starting out I have an Armalite 308 that I can take to 600 consistently just not that super accurate its bone stock. Any way got a Rem 700 SPS in 243 for long range shooting/ Michigan white tail/ Predator. I am going to put a new barrel on it. How long and what twist. I can't decide weather i want smaller fast pills smaller than 100 grain or bigger slower pills 100+. The search function has not been working for me.
Thanks for the help

If you want long range you need to shoot heavy bullets, and to do that you need to twist it fast. I would go with a 1-8 twist, this will handle 107 grain hpbt bullets.

OUt of 2 243 AI's, one is a 1 in 8 and the other a 1:7.5. The 8 shoots 107's and 105's very well. Also will handle the smaller bullets (87 & 80 grainers) reasonably well. THe 7.5 works great w/ 115's.

Have you thought about 'Ackleytizing' your 243 win?
