Kyle, sorry if I caused you any confusion. Let me explain my thoughts a little better. On your first question, yes the 230 Target has quite a bit more energy at the 1K mark than the 210, velocity is very close. Here are those numbers at 1K for you to compare, this is a 100 yard zero and at sea level with a 10mph wind: I reduced the velocity on the 230 to a more reasonable number that one should be able to acheive very good accuracy out of a RUM. 210VLD@3120fps: 1771fps, 1463ft/lbs, 230.8"drop, 55.7"wind drift. 230 Hybrid Target@2900fps: 1777fps, 1613ft/lbs, 253.6"drop, 50.8"wind drift. For me, the 210 VLD shoots so well that I would have needed to get equivalent or better accuracy from the 230 at or above 2900fps before I would switch. However, I could not get the level of accuracy I needed. Now, on your second question: My theory is that the hybrid nose design may enter the rifling smoother and allow for a little better velocity than a VLD of the same weight. To answer your question about the 215 vs. the 230. I have discovered that in my rifle a 10 grain bullet change will typically create a 100fps velocity change when loaded to roughly the same pressures. As I mentioned above, I am currently working on load development with the 215's and here's why, I think you'll like these numbers: Once again these are at 1K. 230 Hybrid Target@2900fps: 1777fps, 1613ft/lbs, 253.6"drop, 50.8" wind drift. 215 Hybrid Target@3150fps: 1902fps, 1728ft/lbs, 215.3"drop, 48.3" wind drift. You may or may not get these kind of velocity numbers out of your rifle, there's only one way to find out. But for me, the 215 is hands down the one to go with, this will still be a legitimate elk load to 1200 yards. I hope to be able to do a little more load development this weekend.:D
