we aren't even at reloading 101 yet.... I'd go to 77 grains or so 7828 or a similar charge of rl22, assuming it isn't too much for your friend's rifle; work up of course. 77 grains 7828 seemed to do the best with the 225 hornady in my buddie's accumark. The 220 eld-x should behave very similarly, but may break 2700 fps a grain or so off from that. The 30's I've shot with 220-225 grain slugs seem to want to be at the 2700-2750fps mark or right at 3000 fps for respectable accuracy. you'll eat the bolt on the little 300 roy though trying for 3,000 fps. My 300 rum's eat a half hat full of rl33 and break 3,000 fps easily with any of the decent 220 grain or heavier pills out there with .5 to .6 moa from a sporter( no brake and 9# ready to play) being the norm. I'm currently working with the 200 eld-x in my new 300rum as I'm tiring of only getting 3,000 fps from a usably heavy pill in my 300 rums. My old 300rum is shot out and fouling badly (oddly she still shoots good groups), so she's going under the knife and getting a new barrel this summer.... cartridge/ caliber to be determined. It's a ****er too, as I have 600 220-225 grain 30 cal's left to be shot up, and the 200 grain eld-x are showing 1/2 moa accuracy so far with little load development. I'm running another box of the 200's through the rifle before I settle on the load but so far so good.
