On the other hand the G7 BC of .406 helps carry this bullet. I crunched some JBM numbers for 4000 ft ( the elevation I usually shoot) with the bullet lumbering along at 2600 fps. It had 8.8 inches of drift at 500 yds in a 10 mph crosswind. That has it beating the wind drift of my 257 Weatherby with 110 accubonds going a bit over 3700 fps by 1.6". Energy is not great but it is just under 2000 ft/lb At 975 yds it still is moving at 1903 fps which might be the threshold of reliable expansion. If 2000 fps is the borderline it is doing that at 825 yds. If you were to build a long barrel with enough twist the 195 might do quite well. Sure you would be doing some turret twisting but you wouldn't have too many issues wind drift. Who knows, with the right powder the 195 might even go 2700 fps or more from a 30" barrel and the 280 or 284 win.
