150 gr load for 270 wsm

I forgot to mention that I am going to shoot this rifle single shot so I can fit most bullets. Also my magazine is a staggered feed and instead of doing a conversion for it I decided to just feed one round in at a time.

I think I am starting to lean towards the berger 150 gr bullets. A much higher BC and I can shoot them to 3200 or just under. I am still debating on powder. I really starting to like the RL-19, H4831 and Retumbo for ballistics.

With the 150 gr bergers I will easily be able to take bear and deer sized game on down out to 1000 probably even 1100 with good bullet placement and ideal weather conditions.

Time will tell what I can get out of this cartridge. thanks for all the posts.

DontBlink,

This may not be strictly according to your initial question.

I am a long time 270 fan. I have a 270 Win in a Winchester pre 64 M70 fwt and it just loves the Hornady 140gr SPBT Interlocks (stock # 2735) But it is fussy with most other bullets, particularly the SSTs. I developed a load for a New Zealand Tahr and Chamois hunt in 2010 pushing the 140 gr out of my 22" barrel at 3,044 fps (chronographed in May, winter here). These bullets are awesome with good BC (for their type) of 0.486. They are a soft bullet so they open rapidly but the interlock feature holds them together.

I was concerned before the trip that the 140 gr interlocks might have been a bit too much of a bullet for the small frame of the Chamios, but this was not the case.

I have since been doing some paper ballistics on the 270 WSM (my protégée has one of these in mind) as a long range hunting rifle. With 180 gr Woodleigh bullets with a BC = 0.513. The following is the print of this out of the PointBlank ballistics software:

I trust this assists.

Cheers and God bless,
Magnum

I'm a 270 fan. I also moly tumble coat my own bullets. You really need a longer barrel to get 270's going. I think that 2800 fps for a 180 might be hard to attain. I have a 26 inch 270 custom 56mm 6X - 24X and a 29 inch 270 AI

The 150 moly are slightly over .500 BC I'm not sure about these 169.5 VLD's

From left to right:

.458 405 grain Barnes X, .277 wildcat 169.5 VLD, .277 150 sierra 150 moly SPBT, 169.5, .277 140 gr. Barnes X
