100g & H-1000???

I am wanting to work up a full tilt load for the 100g Nosler Partition with H-1000. I am hoping I can get around 3400fps and around 3/4". JUst curious as to where I should start in powder charge?? My cases will hold 65g of H-1000 filled to the top.

I got pressure signs at 49.3gr. Start around 43gr and you should do fine.

Remingtonman_25_06, You might struggle to get enough H1000 powder into the 25/06 case with the 100 grain bullet to get to maximum pressure. Consequently you will struggle to reach 3,250 fps let alone 3,400 fps.

Judging from my lots of H1000, you would have to be able to fit about 63.0 grains into the 25/06 case (with bullet seated) to get near maximum pressure, and with the case capacity you mentioned, I cannot imagine how you would do that.

For the reason above, I did not test H1000 with the 100 grain bullet in the 25/06, but believe it should be ok with the 115 - 125 grain bullets.

My Remington 25/06 cases took 59.5 grains of H4831sc to fill to the base of the neck, (63.9 to the top)and the Winchester 25/06 cases took 60.7 grains to fill to the base of the neck and 65.1 to the top.

Using Winchester cases, and the 100 grain Nosler BT, in my custom 25/06 with Sako L61R action, and Shilen 24 inch SS barrel:
58.0 grains H4831sc - 3232 fps (Max)
59.0 grains Viht N165 - 3342 fps (Max)

My lot of H1000 was about 4 grains slower than Viht N165 in the 25/06 AI with the 115 grain Nosler Bt. ie:
59.0 grains Viht N165 - 3305 fps (Max)
63.0 grains H1000 - 3271 fps (Max)

I did test H1000 in my 25/06AI with the 100 grain BT, and a load of 64.0 grains (100% load density) only produced 3300 fps at mild pressure.

I would suggest you try powders such as Re 22, Viht N165, H4831sc, or other powders of similar burning rate with the 100 grain bullet. Brian.

Well, From my figuring anyways, H-1000 is a little slower burning then RL-22. 57g of RL-22 is usually around max with a 100g bullet. I will try 56g and 57g of H-1000 today and check for velocity. Its a cold SOB outside today, hope my chrony will work alright. I have tested the 100g Partitions with IMR-4831 & H-4831, & IMR-4350. I just dont have any more of the above powders. I found 2 loads that shot 1 inch and 3300fps. I have used H-1000 for 115g bullets. Hopefully going up in powder charge will produce a little more accuracy to go with the velocity. Like I said, I'll start at 56g and go to 57g. If 57g shoots no better then the 56g load, I'll just go buy another pound of IMR-4831 and load the rest of them up. 53.5g of IMR-4831 produced 3400fps with 1 inch groups at 100 yards.

Well I just got back from the range. According to my brunton windmeter, it was 34 degrees. My fingers got cold. Anyways, I tried 56 & 57 grains of H-1000 behind a 100g NP. I am using CCIBR2's, Win Cases, and OAL=3.240". The 56g load gave me a .45" group at 100 yards while scooting along at 3140fps. The 57g load shot around an inch, I did not even measure it. It was shooting right at 3200. No point in seeing what 58g or 59g of powder will do, since jumping up 1 grain made my accuracy quite a bit worse. I dont see it getting any better then .45". Like I said in one of the above posts, I have 2 loads worked up, 1 with IMR-4831, the other with IMR-4350, they shot 1 inch but were shooting 150-200fps faster. Should I take the 3140fps with .4" or go with the 3400fps and 1 inch groups?? I will be using this load for spring black bear, and I will be taking this spike elk hunting next year. giving the size of the animal and my max range of 400 yards I will shoot at elk/bear with a 25-06. I am almost going to take the 3400fps load for the little extra punch. I should still get 4-5 inch groups at 400 yards which would be totally acceptable for the size of critter I'll be going after. I'm just interested in seeing what this little 100g pill will do.
