My goal is to get 1,600 fps at 1000 yards shooting a Berger 6.5 140 VLD and getting there with less than 60k psi using a 26" barrel.

Is this doable with a 284 case?

You left out a lot of information like the specific cartridge, case capacity, air density, and seating depth. However Quickload indiacates that in a 6.5x284 Norma case with a cartridge OAL of 3.228" (default), 56.8 grains of VV N560 will give a pressure of 59421 psi with a 94.7% case fill and a muzzle velocity of 3067fps. Quicktarget shows that to give a velocity of 1752 fps at 1000 yards in standard ICAO conditions (sea level).

If that is close to your setup then I'd say your goal of 1600 fps@1000 is easily doable using a lighter charge. The powder choice was just my first guess at something reasonable . It's not a recommened load, just a computer simulation to anwer your "what if".

    Thanks!

I just bought a QL 3.5 yesterday and have not had a chance to play with it yet.

You know Hornady claims it's 6.5 Creedmore gets better mileage out of a barrel
because their proprietary round produces 308 pressures, under 60K. In theory anyways.

Can you get the 6.5x284 to produce the same results?

Either way, my next build is based on a 284 case be it 26 or 28 caliber.

I prefer the 26's milder recoil and I already have 500 140 VLD's at the ready.

The stock and action are ready to go, just deciding on caliber.

according to my ballistic program(load from a disc for windows) a 140 berger running a 2950 fps MV will be running 1656 fps at 1K, this is using a G1 drag function and a BC of .64, my rifle which runs them 3340 fps (6.5 Gibbs) and BC works out to about .7 is running them 1923 fps at the same range. can you do it running <60K, have no idea.
