1.2\" and 1.25\" Barrel shank?

Bear with me if this seems obvious to you, i'm on a learning curve.
Does a 1.25" barrel shank work well on a Rem 700 or Win 70 action?
If i order one for a Rem 700 or Win 70 action does it need to be turned down?
Are 1.25" shank barrels intended for custom actions?

You can use a Rem or Win action with any size barrel you want.

Some barrel makers list benchrest profiles as starting at 1.250" diameter around the chamber area which is called the shank, and list 1.200" diameter for the hunter profiles. Some people call the barrel tennon diameter the shank, likely due to Savage changing things abit.
