06 bolt face modification

can a Remington 700 30/06 bolt face be opened up to accept a Dakota cartridge?

Let's rephrase the question..... Can a 30/06 bolt face be modified to a ultra mag bolt face?

Yes but not without an extractor change. Most go to Sako or M-16 while they are at it. It's just about as cheap, or cheaper, to order a new bolt from PTG and sell yours. The down side is the wait for the PTG bolt. BTW a Dakota rim is .013" bigger than a Ultra Mag (.532 to .545). The Dakota stuff is based off a true .404 Jeffry's case.

Yes I am aware of the size difference of the dakota rounds but it seems like people avoid any discussion concerning them so I thought if I asked about the ultra magsi would geta reply.... And I figured if it can be opened to the ultra mags then another .013 wouldn't be an issue. ... Thanx for the reply. ..i. will check into a new bolt (wouldn't hurt to have a new one anyways
