CLOTHING & BOOTS
Simply put, the Eberlestock Tailhook is the finest lumbar hunting pack ever made. The unique design of the Tailhook combines the light-weight, cool wearing, compact size of a lumbar pack with the ability to securely carry a rifle or bow hands-free on the rear of your pack, and draw your weapon quickly and quietly. Eberlestock put a ton of thought into the design of the Eberlestock Tailhook pack and the result is a pack that is a pleasure to hunt in all day, every day.
The Eberlestock Tailhook is comprised of a generously sized lumbar pack featuring a heavy-duty, well padded and extremely comfortable waist belt similar to a waist belt you would find on one of Eberlestock's freight hauler type packs. Above the Tailhook's lumbar pack is a removeable shoulder harness featuring a small upper bag which provides a platform for a rifle or bow to rest on, and makes the pack carry them with exceptional stability. The upper bag's internal pocket incorporates a spacer pad to keep the weapon away from your head. On the rear of the lumbar pack, the Tailhook features an integrated (and removeable) ButtBucket which is vertically adjustable to support the bottom of your rifle or bow. Along with the ButtBucket comes the Eberlestock Ripcord tether which is designed to strap the top of your rifle or bow to your pack while allowing you to quickly and quietly draw your weapon with the pack still on your back.
The lumbar pack portion of the Eberlestock Tailhook features a generously sized main compartment with four internal elastic-topped tuck pockets sized to carry hydration bladders or other gear. On the outside-rear of the main compartment is a large tuck pocket for items you want quickly accessible without opening the pack. On either side of the main compartment are rows of Padlock webbing tie points. The main compartment is built on a semi-rigid frame sheet which provides some structure and strength. The lumbar pack rides about 1/2 way up your back and features ample padding and good ventilation.
On either side of the main lumbar compartment you will find the Tailhook's unique wing pockets. When the pack is all strapped down, the wing pockets wrap around the main compartment and sinch everything tight with a heavy-duty compression strap. The wing pockets are designed to each carry a hydration bladder, but they are also a great size and shape to carry smaller spotting scopes, tripods, etc. The wing pockets have a padded exterior which makes them especially nice for protecting your expensive optics. On the back side of each wing pocket is a tuck pocket which is another good place for spotting scope, tripod, etc., especially if you want super-quick access to those items. The wing pockets feature full-length water proof zippers and multiple Padlock webbing tie points. On the outside of the wing pockets are additional sinch-top pockets for hats, gloves, etc.
The Tailhook's top flap is used to strap down your load with dual verticle compression straps. It features a good sized fleece-lined pocket with a waterproof zipper accessed from the outside-top, perfect for glasses, electronics or other delicate valuables. On the under side of the top flap is a small mesh organizer pocket and a nice padded zipper compartment - a good size to protect your binos when not in use.
One of my favorite features of the Eberlestock Tailhook is the zippered compartment on either side of it's waist belt. The compartments are a good size and shape to hold items you want available at your fingertips like range-finder, calls, archery release, etc. Another cool feature of the Tailhook is it's ability to strap to a tree becoming a handy treestand organizer.
The Eberlestock Tailhook pack is built using Eberlestock's NT-7 fabric which is waterproof and, like every other component of Eberlestock packs, extremely durable. Although quite substantial, the NT-7 fabric has a soft and quiet micro fleece exterior and remains supple and quiet in cold temperatures.
