300wm with 180gr Nos BT or 25-06 with 100gr Nos BT have worked well for me for over 30 years.
I like this combo as well.My old man has always used his 270. win and its always done the job!
personally i like the 243. win for with in 300 yards and the 7mm rem mag for outside of that
I've since moved on from this combo.I like this combo as well.
I occasionally use my .257 Roberts also.6.5mm

Old '06 been the best for many years!Yes 30-06 is a fine deer cartridge to round here in my country unless your hunting powerlines or a rare large field a 308 normally is all needed.
Built a 6.5-08, then 6.5-06 back in the 70's, when SAMMI normalized 6.5-08 into 260 I bought a couple different barrels and haven't looked back. My fav ia 260 Proof Carbon 24" on a AI /AX platform, a little heavy but I have shot that out to a mile with 147's. Shot a doe at 485' with 130vld, neck shot. That's how confident I am with that setup. Hunting rig is Remmy 700 with 22" Lilja threaded for all things that hang off the end. Every deer/pig or anything that bleeds, all fell with first shot even with "wrong" bullet weight.260 Remington. Long or Short and every thing in between. Very accurate with different loads to match the game and hunt.
Have to love the 260.Built a 6.5-08, then 6.5-06 back in the 70's, when SAMMI normalized 6.5-08 into 260 I bought a couple different barrels and haven't looked back. Good lawd Obiwan!!! Dead right there! I like that.A 180 grain TTSX in 300 PRC has become my favorite, not much tracking needed anymore.
