Debate time..... caliber selection

Yes,,, relax.

This is a simple thread just like every other thread on this forum.

Folks can offer their opinions or put up ideas with facts,,, if this is the case, best too copy paste from the get go.

The major of folks on this forum are not into arguing since its suppose too be a fun place too hang-out.

I find it wize too not ruffle the masses and tap it kool.

If one encounters frustration, re think ones words, correct faults and move forward.

Put on a smile, try too get along, and be happy with the most important... "Our Selves.

Sorry this is not fully related too this awesome thread, but in a small way it "could" be.

Our selection of choosing the wizer words can save ones ***.

IMO only Don

Went to Alaska, had to fly, my rifle made it...my luggage wound up in SE Asia, ammunition and "Military" equipment seized (Binoculars, range finder, non military camo etc) Luckily I was using a .375 H&H, so was able to locally source ammunition.

Several friends who travel to various local's to hunt have taken to air freighting their preferred ammunition (just under the amount that is allowed in said country) in addition to carry the bare minimum in their luggage, because they feel that sometimes the missing luggage is an intentional act by some people, firearms are being watched/tracked fairly well, so they make it, but everything else ....

So while I may not be spending $10 000 dollars to go hunt somewhere, planning for potential problems is part of my hunt prep and finding out that my cartridge of choice can be sourced locally, means if my luggage goes astray, I still can hunt with "MY" rifle versus a borrowed unfamiliar rifle.

Here it goes. Another which caliber is best thread.

What's the best do all caliber in your opinion.

Here's the stipulation....if you choose to respond, you must provide a reasoning for your pick. You can't simply post a caliber and be done
30-06 almost the easiest ammo to find, broad selection, very versatile and doesn't hurt to fire it.

Sadly, some real interesting hunting zones, you just can't drive there from here :) or by the time you get there and back the vehicle you were using may need some serious maintenance or overhaul...have you seen what they charge for tires and fuel going to Alaska thru Canada? or a trip to NWT or whatever they call it since they divided it. You can fly pretty cheap versus driving there...I don't like Ferries/Ships/Boats and wife can get sea sick just walking thru a puddle in the parking lot :)

So I will just suck it up, air freight my ammo and make sure I can get clothes and gear locally, should my luggage go on a world tour...my duffle has seen the bowels of many a foreign airport luggage area, many more than I have ever traveled to!

All true! Too many bad airline experiences to list. I will give one, being separated from luggage is one thing, thinking they were going to separate me from my young children going to Disneyland entirely another. Overbooking direct flights then rerouting the losers around the country with multiple layovers.

Had I allowed that to continue it would be me in the headlines being physically removed from the aircraft.

I like the 300 win mag, but for a do all... The most popular rifle for hunting ever built is arguably the 30-06. And there is a reason for that. It can take every game animal in north america short of the Brown Bear and the Polar Bear with ease. (you could take one down with one but its not a recommended rifle). The reasons you can get high quality ammo anywhere and in any bullet weight that suits you. If you reload there are never any shortage of components. This a fairly flat shooter with a lineage that has been tested through the years. So if I lived anywhere but Alaska, that would be my selection for the best all around rifle.

The .338 WM! Recoil is very acceptable in a sub 9 pound rifle. With Handloading a high BC bullet, can easily be a 700 yard rifle. Works well on anything from deer/antelope to moose, including Alaska's bears. And, decent factory ammo is pretty accessible! memtb

.243 win is my go to rifle, it has limitations but I have lager calibers for that, it covers the majority of the game I hunt.

95g Berger vld, rabbit to deer and everything in between.

It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
