SOLD/EXPIRED 375 & 408 CheyTac Brass - Peterson Cartridge

Today I got a newsletter from Peterson announcing that they will soon be producing this brass. They are taking pre-orders and expect to begin shipping before the SHOT show in January. I called them and followed up with an email to put my name on the list.
I've never used any Peterson brass so I was wondering if any of our members have had any experience with them and can post their experience. I'm currently using Bertram so was wondering how Peterson brass compares to some of the other brands out there.

Hi I have not tried it personally but I do have a friend that has and he says it's comparable to Lapua. I shoot 300 win mag which Lapua does not make brass for and supposedly Peterson is coming out with 300 wm brass soon as well so I will be giving it a shot for sure. Hope that helps. ... PS I wanna shoot a 375 before I die so if your ever in South Georgia hit me up

Thanks for the response. I hope it is as good as Lapua. From what I've seen so far of the Bertram brass I bought I'm not impressed. Granted I did buy the "malformed" brass since I'm fire forming to 375 SnipeTac anyway.
When I talked with Peterson I didn't mention the 300WIN but did put a bug in their ear for the 300RUM. I hope they come out with both!

Got a call from Peterson today. They are now taking orders for the 408 & 375 brass. They say they will start shipping in about 10 business days. I've got 100 of the 375 coming to try out. Will compare against the Bertram to see which I like best.

I have been very pleased with the 375 brass I bought. It's good stuff and I'd buy more if/when the time comes. The 12 cases I used for load development were fired 5 times after initial fire forming and are showing no signs of the primer pockets loosening up. This was with up to 150gr of 50BMG with the 377gr MTAC on top.

What velocity you getting?

I am annealing every other loading. I settled on 148gr of 50bmg with the 377 mtac. Velocity average is 3026. So far have have only shot steel to 1000 yards.

Thanks, I am using Bertram brass at the moment and plan on annealing after every 2 shots as well.

Once I got past the initial fire forming and case prep - the Bertram brass has also held up pretty well. The malformed brass I bought was very hard - I had to anneal it just to size the necks for turning. I'm guessing that was the reason it didn't fully form out in the neck/shoulder and shoulder/body areas. I'm up to seven loadings on the 12 cases I picked to do load development and the primer pockets are showing some signs of loosening but will still hold a primer just fine. Just not as snug as they used to be. With the Bertram, I'm loading the 350SMK over 137gr of Retumbo. This is giving me a velocity of 3165. All I have used for either load is the 215 primer. Please remember this is the SnipeTac not the CheyTac so there will be a little difference. Good luck with yours!

Mine is a Snipetac as well, still doing load development. Plan on using the 375 grain Chinchagas for hunting and once load development is complete finding a similar velocity load with the 350 SMK. The SMK's are considerably cheaper and have basically the same BC (a little research online says so at least).
So far I'm up to 154 grains of RL50 and 3100 fps. This is with a 30" 1-8 twist Bartlein barrel. Got the same with RL33 but hit pressure. All bullets are HBN coated.

Oh yes - I had forgotten the we discussed this a while back. Mine is a 30" Bartlein as well but is a 1-10". I was concerned that the 377MTAC would not stabilize in that twist but was pleased it shot well to 1000. I read a post a while back that said they would not shoot well past 800+. I'm very limited here in Ohio on ranges that go past 1000. I know where one is that has targets out to one mile but have not yet made the drive over there. Now that I've got my loads figured out will shoot a few more times at 1000 to learn the gun and then give it a go.
