despite minor differences in ballistics; weight would be less in the short and super short mags. bolt throw(if speed makes a difference to you) some cons would be accurate barrel life would be slightly less with more throat erosion from WSM/WSSM and also is some weapons the WSM or WSSM...

yeah i tend to put mine farther than closer... through my experience, if you have the chrony closer to your barrel, it will get screwed up by the gas/particles escaping the muzzle blast force could also be the culprit.

do you reload? what's your style of hunting? do you have a lot of money to spend on this project :D. what do you think your max distance would be?
