    Barrel Blank Curve

I use barrel nuts on all of my rifles (Remington 700, Ruger American, AR-15, Savage) and change barrels often: takes about 15 minutes if I have to remove the scope. I don't know how timing barrels would fit in my methods. Many years ago in the '50's onTV (maybe it was Industry on Parade)...

    Barrel Blank Curve

Ok, the barrels are not perfectly (tough absolute word) straight. If the bullet leaves the barrel just a bit off of absolutely aligned (hard to do with a curved barrel) with the bore and you zero the rifle with the barrel pointing any old direction from the curve. IF you zero it, that accounts...

    45-70, 45-90, or 450 Marlin?

More on the 416/300 RUM. [From the Nosler Reloading Guide 8] The case volume of the 375 RUM is 105.2 Gr. water while the 416 Rigby is 106 Gr. water and the 416 Weatherby is 114.5 Gr. water. If you have a 26"+ barrel starting with one of the slower powders and working up I think you can get...

    Which Hunting Knife

Status or utility. Never stainless, too hard to sharpen. Tool steel from Solingen like the Carl Schlieper: easy to sharpen. Or for way less money and very sharp, a Moraknil carbon steel from Sweden not expensive at all I got several at $11 Get on line. I keep one in the truck and a couple in...

    45-70, 45-90, or 450 Marlin?

Sure! 375 RUM brass would be great but I only had 300 RUM brass. It does fine all the way up to 416. I just started with H1000 and started moving the load up 110g about fills the case as I recall. I don't shoot it much; as I said, just for fun. I have done the same with the EDGE, started...

    45-70, 45-90, or 450 Marlin?

It should be the same. I just start with 300RUM brass and open it up. Have the 338 EDGE, 358/300 RUM, 375/300 RUM and the 416/300 RUM. The EDGE is great, the 358: not enough bullets to select from for that but the 375 is a GREAT one. The 416/300 RUM was just for fun, likely more speed with a...

    45-70, 45-90, or 450 Marlin?

My 45-70 Browning Hi Wall give me 1750fps on 400g bullets but my big boy is a Remington 700 with a 416/300RUM loaded with 110g H1000 pushing a 400g bullet 2585fps. My only really great lever gun is a 1904 vintage '92 Winchester rifle in 44 W.C.F. 200g bullet at 2010fps: Its a pig killer!

    Barrel Blank Curve

My method of working between centers is the best I can do since I cannot run the barrel through the headstock. The tenon and the barrel beyond the tenon are worked with reference to the center, then on the steadyrest which was set and run smoothly with the barrel on centers. The reamer seeks...

    Barrel Blank Curve

My lathe is an OLD Craftsman 12" X 36" Cannot get anything larger than 3/4" through the headstock so I have to work with the full lenght of the barrel. I profile the barrel, turn the tenon to size and thread between centers with the steady rest up close to the threads. There I run it with the...

What is your favorite "RIMFIRE" Cartridge and what is your rifle?

My first rifle, Remington Model 241 "Speedmaster" using 40g 22LRs. Winchester Super X ammo was the best in those days. Never left the house without it from age ten back in 1954 until I left home. It is right here with me today.

    Barrel Blank Curve

I was born in the wrong century so my work is primitive. I buy barrel blanks from Shilen, keep track of the stamped end so it always becomes the chamber end, I cut at least one inch off each end of the barrel, center drill both ends and then do profiling and threading between centers. I tie the...

    45 ACP on Brown Bear.????

I have a FNP-45 double stack 45. I like ball ammo (good penetration) as the hole is big enough to start with and it feeds best in all the autos. If you don't carry a 45-70 lever gun then FNP-45 is just right. Watch that front sight and the bear will die right there.
